Floydd Ricketts is originally from London, Ontario. He holds a degree in music performance from York University, where he studied classical voice with Canadian tenor Benjamin Butterfield and jazz voice with Sacha Williamson.
Mr. Ricketts is the co-founder of The Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra and continues to gain recognition as an adept director of various musical styles and genres, covering everything from Classical to Music Theatre to World Musics. He is frequently called to work with small orchestras, choirs and music theatre ensembles throughout Ontario, and has music directed several productions with critical acclaim.
As a music director for the theatrical stage, he has conducted productions for various companies including The Grand Theatre in London, Brampton Music Theatre, Teatron Theatre and Da Capo Opera Theatre in New York City. Recently, he completed a music directing internship at The Shaw Festival in Niagara-On-The-Lake and in August of 2010 was made the Assistant Conductor of The Nathaniel Dett Chorale.
He has been described by his peers as a proficient scorer and arranger, and has arranged a number of works for mixed voices, chamber orchestra and jazz ensembles. |
